Sustainable Work

Sustainable Work

A hub for inspired people to work together.

At IET we guarantee that there is always enough time to discuss and focus on the professional and personal development of every team member. We are on a journey, and we are on this journey together. We think that our common spirit has to be cherished and cultivated continuously.

With this in mind, we believe that all members of our team should be able to answer the following questions positively.

Has my work meaning?

Am I doing the work I like to do? Do I have control over my work? Do I feel my work has a positive impact on myself and in general?

Do I feel challenged and supported?

Am I feeling that the degree of autonomy in my work is suitable for me? Am I feeling competent enough to do my work? Am I allowed to improve? Am I able to help others to improve? Am I encouraged to pick up additional skills that I would like to learn?

Is there a feeling of belonging?

Does what I do make me feel being part of a group? Do I feel connected to my work? Is my field of work the one I’d love to work in the most? If I changed my field, would I feel that I have lost something or does that thought somehow relieves me?

Mentoring

Mentoring is a key component of our approach to support our team in their personal and professional development. We believe that people should be supported and challenged at the same time in order to grow.

Mentor - Mentee Relationships

For us the mentor-mentee relationship is more than a classical one-on-one approach between one mentor and one mentee. At IET we make different topic-related mentors available for each mentee. We think that every person combines many different aspects that should be fostered individually. Therefore, we work on an individualized mentoring concept with every mentee from the start.

Supporting and Challenging

Mentors, in our understanding, are coaches whose task it is to support and strengthen peoples personal and professional skills. We also believe that both, mentor and mentee, are considered as equal contributors and that the mentor also learns from a mentee. We consider including the mentees ideas into the individual mentoring process as essential for a successful professional development.

The most important tool for successful mentoring is talking to each other, to find out where one is coming from, and where one is headed to. Talking also creates trust, and trust is the bedrock of growth. Knowing that failure is not the end of the world, takes away the fear and maximizes the potential for growth that a challenge can offer.

Continuous communication is a two way street, where not only the mentees development is fostered, but the mentor also learns about and is able to trust in the mentees abilities and vision for the future. This is why we encourage mentees to bring their ideas to the table. Being it suggestions for self-improvement, internal workflow optimizations or project ideas, all can be valuable. This will in turn increase people’s engagement with and impact on the future of IET.
